You are thinking of the "breather tube" assembly. The air bleeder is the valve on top of the filter. The air bleeder should not clog up.

Air-relief tube in the filter is just what you say, pipe with a screen. It does get covered with DE and debris, but air can still get through, normal operation.

You are thinking of the "breather tube" assembly. The air bleeder is the valve on top of the filter. The air bleeder should not clog up.

Actually I looked the part up in the Pentair manual to be sure I was using the correct name before I posted. "170029 AIR BLEEDER ASSY., QUAD 60". The release valve on top is called "Manual Air Relief Valve". I know that most people refer to it as a breather tube, but I was just trying to use the correct nomenclature. Thanks for your response though!
