Good day all! I am in my 3rd year as a pool owner and this year for whatever reason my heater won't start and has no power to the display. The first year I replaced the display pad with no issues.

I'll need help with my terminology but so far... I replaced the control panel and the fenwal ignition system figuring one of those two things went bad. I also replaced the fuse though it looked fine when I took out the old one. After this I still get nothing when I press any buttons.

It was obvious there was a winter guest in the heater, I cleaned out a nest and poo. It does not look like any damage to cables that I can see.

I tested power going into the ignition system but don't read any power going to panel.

I would really appreciate any advice on where to go from here before I have to bite the bullet on a new heater. Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

Is your heater connected to automation?

Anything connected to the Firemans Switch connection?

Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it?

Have you checked for voltage into the transformer and 24V AC at the PCB?

Hi and thanks for the response. I am not exactly sure what kind of automation you are talking about but I believe the answer is no. I manually have to turn it on and off. Yes there is something connected to firemans switch, I have uploaded 2 pictures. I have a multimeter but I do not know how to use it, I use the simple other option that came with it. I am not 100 percent sure where the transformer is, is that above where the ignition system is physically? PCB, control board? I get nothing on there with the simple power checker device. Very sorry I have only basic knowledge on how to wire outlets in the house etc.20240521_123321.jpg

Your fireman’s switch just has the factory jumper installed with nothing connected to it.

The rodent probably chewed on wires and you have a broken wire in the heater. Rodents can easily kill a heater and make it uneconomical to repair.

Basic troubleshooting is to follow the power using the multimeter. The wiring diagram is in the Installation Manual. The power leads from the connections at the heater through the transformer to power the PCB. That is all marked in yellow below.

You are working around high voltages so only do what is safe for you.

Where is the heater getting its power? That is the place to start.
Is it from a switch? Is it on?
A breaker? Is it tripped or off?
A time clock? Is the pump running when you try to start the heater? It has to be as the heater may be getting its power from the same terminals in a time clock.
Before replacing more, or any, parts, one should always start at the beginning of the system when troubleshooting.
