Hi Everyone,

I have been working to get my chemicals stable. My PH is ranging from 7.1 to 8.0. I have been adjusting with Muriatic ACID. AK has been between 70 and 90 although today it dipped and it was around 69. I will be adding Baking soda tonight. MY CA has been pretty stable but today it was up to 42. The Phosphates seem very high at 2400. Should I be concerned? I got my Taylor test and learned how to use it.

Congrats on the new pool. Our #1 concern would be your method of water testing and what appears to be local store testing. If you aren't testing with a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit you run the risk of adjusting chemicals blindly and that usually wastes time, money, and causes frustration. If those were your own (reliable) test results, I would simply say:
1 - Increase the FC with liquid chlorine. Reference our FC/CYA Levels and use the non-salt tab for a pool with a CYA of 40. Do this for the first 30 days until the plaster/pebble cures.
2 - Leave the TA alone.
3 - Consider adding about 30-40 ppm of calcium to get the CH to the minimum of 250.
4 - Continue to maintain the pH between 7.5 - 7.8; I don't understand why they are recommending you to maintain such a low pH which will make the water more aggressive and is typically not good for new plaster.

But all of this could be mute if those test results are not accurate. A proper test kit is a must.

Phosphates dont really matter as long as you have sufficient sanitizer, which you currently dont. It is algae food and FC kills algae. How old is your pool finish? You really need to slam and then maintain proper FC levels for your CYA, but if you are still on new plaster, I understand if you dont want warranty problems. How are you measuring a CYA of 42? If you are using a pool store or even worse, strips, please stop and get a proper test kit. I use TFTestkits TF-100 with a smart stir.

If you are really worried about phosphates, dont buy the pool store stuff as it clogs your filters and is pricey. I use this from time to time as phosphates were once used as an excuse for my SWG not working and they pretty much wouldnt do anything further until I proved to them I had 0.
