Patching vinyl without getting in

I opened my pool and discovered I've got two tears (about 2" long) in the vinyl along the floor. I've patched holes before, but it was in summer, when the water was a reasonable temperature.
So, has anyone gotten creative with repairing holes without getting in the pool?
I have this crazy idea in my head, but I'm only about 25% sure that it will work. A local place wants to charge me $275 just to get in the water.

It's along the floor of the pool, so the ground is helping keep it in, I guess. It's 3ft at the point of the tear.

I had a guy repair mine a couple years ago... He put the glue on the vinyl patch and was able to push it down with a pool pole. Went very slowly obviously... But years later still in place
