I’ve got a raypak heater installed and they put the stack on it. I live in the woods and leaves get down on top of the heat exchanger. My question is do I really need the stack or can I just put the pagoda top back on it? The equipment is outside behind a detached garage with plenty of ventilation.

That's a "high wind" stack. It is needed because the heater is so close to a large wall. Without it wind could force a downdraft into the heater while it is running. That can force the flame out of the combustion chamber and into the control area. The fusible link would burn and stop the flame, but damage can be done (and the link would need to be replaced). That screening should prevent the leaf issue.
Wind can hit the wall and downdraft into the unit causing a backdraft.

Your heater with those two walls going high above it require the stack kit to have proper draft.
Thanks all! Glad I didn’t just delete it and go to the pagoda without asking. It’s nice because the equipment is back behind a detached garage and 100 ft from the pool itself so there isn’t any noise near the pool but that is true there is some serious downdraft if the wind hits that wall.
