Purchase a new A7 Bullfrog with the eos ozonator about a year and a half ago. I have questioned weather it works or not since day one. We were previous owners of a Hotsprings tub with ozone so are familiar with its characteristics. We never smell ozone when we lift the lid and it seems like we have to use a lot of chlorine to keep it clean. We had the dealer out recently and he said the check valve was froze and replaced it. I asked how to check to make sure it’s working and he said he didn’t really have a way to do that. I still don’t smell ozone and still use a lot of chlorine. Is this eos system any good?
You will not smell ozone with an EOS system. It works differently.
Most ozone systems have a little jet from the ozone generator that feeds into the tub. It bubbles out ozone which mixes with the water and also off gasses (and deteriorates your pillows, the bottom of your cover, and perhaps your lungs). This is why you smell ozone.
An EOS system has a canister. It fills the canister with water and then seals it. It then add ozone to the canister and mixes it. Then it vents any excess ozone though a charcoal filter, neutralizing it. The (presumably sanitized) water is then pumped into the tub (through that check valve), and the whole thing starts over again with a fresh canister fill. This is why you do not smell any ozone
All other factors being equal, it is also why you are using more chlorine. Along with killing pathogens, it ozone also oxidizes Cl. The increased and more thorough contact of the EOS system is not only better at reducing pathogens, but also at reducing how much Cl you have in the water.
As far as "is it making any ozone" is concerned, it is next to impossible to tell. With a traditional system you could at least maybe smell it. With the EOS you really have no idea if it is working or not. Ozone generators (at least the atmospheric ones used hot tubs - any hots tubs) have a life span, and it is not a very long one.
