OK-Mid Tenn here. Bought a house in the neighborhood with a 50 year old kidney shaped concrete pool. Repeatedly painted, and looks awful. Just had local Pebble guys out to chat about sandblast/replaster when he pointed out the single bottom drain. I’m aware of the current codes (2 year old pool at my home). Reno pool is 9’ deep- so is there any type of retrofit fitting that can be fitted to the existing drain that doesn’t require tearing into the current shell? Anticipate this being a rental property and would like to be current with safety standards.

How many skimmers does the pool have?

Pools do not need a main drain. You can close off the main drain on the pool floor.

RTS,

You need to check the rules in your area.. A lot of plaster guys 'say' that you are required to have two new drains when plastering an old pool. I am not sure that is true..

I think all you need to do is put on a single raised safety drain. I plastered two pools here in the DFW area and declined their 'suggestion' that I had to replumb the main drains, and they both just put a single raised drain cover and moved on. Two different plaster companies..

I doubt you actually are required to install two drain overs on an old residential pool.

Thanks,

Jim R.
