Overwhelmed

For what it's worth, that drain looks like the kind that are in my yard (and many yards around here) that connect to the street sewer drainage.
I drain my pool by dropping a hose over that grate.

Doesn't mean that's what yours is of course but I'm struggling to think of what else it might be?

I might run a garden hose into it and see what happens. I mean you get rain in PA so some rain must find its way in there, right?

I'm a bit confused about the instructions for determining where to fill from and where to drain from:

Pump from the deep end or near the surface?

Adding water to the deep end while pumping from a top step or near the surface is recommended if your fill water is much colder (>20F) then the pool water.

Put the pump in the deep end and fill from the shallow end if your fill water is nearly the same temperature as the pool water.
My pool water is about 82F, while my fill water is about 78F, so this would lead me to believe that I should pump from the deep end and fill from the shallow end since the temperature difference is small.

DeltaT = (PWT - PWTDS / 165) - (FWT - FWTDS / 165)

If DeltaT is positive, then you want to fill at the lowest point and extract at the surface and at the greatest distance from the lowest point.

If DeltaT is negative, then you want to extract at the lowest point and fill at the surface and at the greatest distance from the lowest point. <-Preferred as it is easier to do with a drain pump and you can fill inside one of the skimmers.

If |DeltaT| < 5, then there will be a lot of mixing.
However, my DeltaT is technically positive, though it's well below 5. Is this saying that I should actually fill at the deep end and extract from the shallow end? Or that it doesn't matter since there will be a ton of mixing regardless?

I've been vacuuming to waste on a near-daily basis since getting my initial CYA result and the level hasn't changed. Just want to make sure I do things right since my pump arrives today.
