A few months back in the off season I had my electricians redo the wiring and replace my timer.
I never got a chance to test in since the pool has been closed until just now.
I had a crew installing a SWG and a heater yesterday but they got stuck saying that there was no power at the timer. They got power at the neutral oddly but none on line or load. Never got a chance to troubleshoot yet. Guys were installers not electricians so they didn’t go further.
Long story leading up to a separate fact that they thought the additional override switch was wired in the wrong spot on the line.
My question is, should the power go from the panel to the toggle switch first, or the timer first?
Ideally I’d like to keep my timer going but use override to shut off for backwashing. Thoughts? Going to take a look tomorrow.

What type of timer do you have?

Does the timer have a manual ON/OFF switch to override the timer setting?

I don't understand why you need to wire in another switch to bypass the timer.

There are many ways creative elctricans can do the wiring. You need to post pics of the timer and switch and whatever else for us to see your situation.

This may or may not help but I think I have it figured out looking at pictures. This picture is old setup but new one should be the same.
left conduit coming from ground is power from panel going first into override switch and then into timer- Intermatic 101, which has its own manual on/off.
That’s the way it was installed before we lived here so I’ve continued to use it.

We need to see the wiring between the override switch and the Intermatic to understand what is going on.

F,

What do you want the override to do?

Do you want the switch to turn on the pump when the timer is off, or do you want the switch to turn off the pump if the timer is on?

Thanks,

Jim R.

There is a toggle switch right inside the Intermatic timer door that can do both those actions.

Allen,

Yes, but I am just trying to understand what the OP is trying to do...

Jim R.

I think OP means a separate switch as circuit breaker. Although the manual override switch inside the timer can turn off the power to pump, but the switch essentially is controlled by the timer. Personally I am not comfortable cleaning the pump when its power being controlled by a automatic device.
