OK I fell for the trap and did the pool frog and now I'm over it. So this year I won't be using the pricy refills. My plan is to use the 5 in 1 chlorine tablets from in the swim. Now this is where my question comes in. Can I use the pool frog canisters as my in-line chlorine feeder?? Or am I better off just piping in a chlorine feeder? Thanks in advance

Jay,

Welcome to TFP.. A Great resource for all your pool questions... :lovetfp:

I noticed that no one has responded to your question. I know I did not initially do so, because I hate to start off on a negative note...

Everyone here applauds you for getting rid of your Frog Mineral system, but you will be hard pressed to find many people here that will recommend the use of chlorine tablets of any kind. My guess is the most of the people that come to this site with pool problems do so because of using pucks. Pucks will increase your CYA level, which initially is a good thing. But, the problem is that they just keep increasing the CYA level day after day. Pretty soon you can't keep enough chlorine in your pool and it turns into a disgusting swamp.

Have you read this... https://www.troublefreepool.com/content/122-what-is-tfpc-bbb

Anyway.. let's see if someone with an opposing viewpoint will chime in...

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Jay, based on examples from the following threads, you did a wise thing to avoid them this year:
Use of the Pool Frog
New Pool, Pool Frog Chlorinator

To address your question about the use of the Frog for the 5-1 tabs, here is a thread about using it as a regular chlorinator:
Is my Frog System a chlorinator?
So be careful. Down the road, you may wish to either plumb an in-line chlorinator if you think you really need it, or simply drop a floating chlorinator in the pool when you're out for a few days. That will do the trick as well. Also remember that generally those multi-number tabs are just varied strengths of stabilizer and/or misc ingredients. Generally we typically advise using standard tabs, but as Jim already covered, usually not for daily chlorination. If your CYA is already low, use them sparingly until your CYA increases to where you want it. For most of the season, manual additions of FC (regular bleach) or increasing FC via a SWG are the best bet. Hope we were able to help.
