Hi, looking for some insight in getting rid of whatever is eating though my chlorine! This is my first full summer with the pool, we live in Houston where it is very hot and the pool is in full sun most of the day. The water temp is creeping up to 92 these days. I was pretty consistently using around 1 gallon of liquid chlorine/day to maintain 7ppm FC. A couple weeks ago I noticed that daily usage amount rising to 2/2.5 gallons per day. Is that a typical increase in the heat of the summer? (My pool is fairly large 39000 gallons.) I thought this could have been due to frequent use and high temperatures. I was out of town for the weekend and dumped extra chlorine that I thought should make it until we got back but I had 0 fc when we returned and 1ppm overnight loss. I started the SLAM with 24 hour filter running, raising my FC TO 24 each night and brushing daily. I cleaned out some visible algae in my Cyclone 50 pre filter cleaner but there is a small amount inside a seal I couldn’t easily access but I poured some bleach into the cyclone. I have been slamming for a few days and am using at least 5 gallons of liquid bleach each day! Last night’s overnight loss of 3ppm. I don’t see any visible algae in the pool.
Any recommendations of other things I could try to speed up the process? From what I have read in here powder shock or algaecide aren’t going to make a big difference. Do I need to take the cyclone apart all the way to get the little bit I can see in there, could that be the culprit? Do I need to clean my pump filters? Thank you for your help! Eating through this much chlorine everyday is killing me!
