There’s a couple ways to go about it - depends on how long you’ll be gone.
I have a swg that produces chlorine daily but I bring my pool to slam level for my cya FC/CYA Levels & put some tabs in a floater for insurance while i’m gone (incase of cell failure or power failure). We are Usually gone for 5-7 days every summer. My pump is on a timer & i have a camera pointing at my pool so i can check to see that it came on as planned as well as see potential problems like bad weather that may throw alot of debris in that would clog the skimmer basket so i can make a call if i need to.
I usually have a family member come by a couple times to check the mail & clean the skimmer out. I check the weather before i go & decide if i need to lower the water a little to account for rainfall.
Some people know how much liquid chlorine their pool consumes daily & add that amount X’s however many days they will be gone. Some use a floater - some don’t.

For the 15 years since I've built my pool, I usually go on one 7-8 day vacation every summer. I don't do anything different before I leave. I don't have anyone check my pool. I have not had any issues in the past which includes some severe storms for a few of those years. Most of my vacations are in July and August. My pool is very stable during this time of year where I rarely have to make any adjustments to my pool.

Also to add - depending on your landscape (lots of trees/debris etc) you could cover it to prevent the skimmer clogging issue. Like I said- depends on how long u vacation for. A week is one thing, a month is another.

SWCG and my daughter or brother checks to make sure power hasn’t gone out and skimmer basket isn’t full.
