Ok so I run on a SWG and my pump is set to run from 6am to 11am and again from 6pm to 11pm FC usually stays around 7.0 to 8.0 which is all good... Well now comes the Opppps... I was Vacuuming the pool on Tuesday and Added 20oz. Of bleach to get the FC back to 8.0 and added some Muriatic Acid around 26oz. To Lower my pH which was at 7.8 and My TA which was at 140 by the way for those that are curious as to why I'm trying to lower my TA and pH I had planned on adding borates this weekend so I've been slowly trying to get it down without doing such a big amount of acid at one time cause it was asking for like 40+oz. so I did half and was gonna check it on Wed. and add more etc... well anyways I got busy yesterday working late and didn't get a chance to come out to check or test the pool and little did I know I forgot to put the timer back on the SWG and my pump and filter ran for almost 48 hours straight ☹️Well now I'm getting a FC reading of 17.0 and can't test pH cause the FC is so high and the Red Phenol turns a purple color... Anyways is there anything I should do other than turn off the SWG to get my FC down and still be able to add my borates this weekend? Or should I just abort the borates mission and get my water back to balanced before doing it? We are expecting rain later tonight and tomorrow... so there won't be much sun out to help me drop my FC...

I would suggest turning off the SWCG and let the FC fall.

Also would wait on adding borates. How long have you had the pool and has your pool water been managed using TFP protocols? It is suggested to wait a couple seasons so you fully understand your pool water characteristics prior to adding borates.

Take care.

My CYA is 80... Yeah basically your right... I'll tell you what the pool is always real clear cause of TFP but I've never seen the water that Crystal Clear... [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I've already turned off the SWG and will watch my FC so it doesn't fall below my Range...

As far as the pool this is our first season with this pool. But we are owners of previous pools just wanted to go bigger... The reason for wanting to do the borates was to see if I could get my pH and TA to stabilize at a lower range cause my normal pH and TA stabilizing range right now is pH 7.8 to 8.0 and TA 140 to 150 plus we use a fountain in the pool quite often... So that and the hope of having the addition of the soft silky feeling water and crystal clear sparkling water people talk about... [emoji16]

And yes this pool and others we have owned have always has been a TFP Pool's I have never and will never use a pool store or their unnecessary chemicals...

Good to hear. Just wanted to clarify on the borates. We have had a number of members (primarily new ones ) on the forum that have been adding borates with out really understanding their pool water chemistry.

Take care.

Ok I will keep that in mind and I just may take your advice and wait a while so I can get used to the water chemistry of this new pool... Thank You...
