Hey Gang. We have had our pool for 9 seasons so I consider myself relatively well referenced on startup and balancing the water. Based on past experience, I can usually predict how things will go.

In the past, I have always used Clorox brand Stabilizer and usually need about 12lbs or so for startup.

Last Fall, I purchased 2 x 20lb bags of stabilizer on Amazon. First time I use this brand. After over 25lbs of stabilizer, I could not get the CYA above 45. I put in 1 bag (4lbs) of Clorox brand last night and today, i finally have chlorine holding and about 60ppm of stabilizer.

Did I get a weak batch of stabilizer or not 100% cyanuric acid as the bag states?

It does have some amount of cya as doing water collection right after squeezing my sock of cya does register cya in my test. It just seems like it's nowhere near 100% cya.

The bags were well sealed with no added air and stored in my garage from Sept 25th and sealed until I opened the first bag a month ago and used it over 3 weeks go get they cya up.

Have others used this Stabilizer brand with good or poor results?

If not stabilizer, have you used this brand of chemicals with good results?

The only thing I will add is that my SWG died about 10 days ago and replaced it within 3 days of noticing the "clean salt cell" continous message.

Doubt that they lack of chlorine production affects the cya levels but just wanted to add that data point

AMAZON purchased from Baclyard Pool Superstore.

I have used a 25lb bag of PuriTech stabilizer bought last fall without any problems.

I use puritech CYA and Calcium exclusively and it's always worked like it should. I stock up over the winter when it's $50 for 25lbs and more importantly, available.
