I converted to salt at the end of last season. Just love it ! This is the first time I have opened with this setup. Is there anything I should do different vs a regular chlorine pool ? Located in Ontario, Canada.
Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for your saltwater pool questions...
I can't think of anything different. In my case (Pentair SWCG) I don't trust the internal salt test until the water temperature gets into the low 70's.. It reads lower than the actual salt level.
If you don't have one, I recommend getting a Taylor K-1766 salt tester.
Not sure of your water temperature, but my SWCG won't produce any chlorine below about 52 degrees.
Don't use the SWCG to bring FC up or to "shock" the pool. Just use plain bleach/liquid chlorine. Once your done with spring cleanup and FC holds overnight, then you can turn on the SWCG to maintain proper FC.
Using the SWCG only to maintain FC will increase cell life.
