Opening pool for the first time

Ah ok, I think I get it. Can't wait to get the new kit. Over the weekend, I'll be digging into the forum and watching YouTube videos on using the kit as Dustin suggested. Purchased a new vac head and telescopic pole this morning and got after it. Pool and water actually look great now. All the sediment is gone. I have a little more scrubbing to do. Had to do another backwash after using the vac but the filter pressure is right where it should be now. I'll be dumping another 1.5 g of liquid chlorine in tonight.

Welcome to the forum!
First step is to order a proper test kit.
You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit, see Test Kits Compared. I suggest the TF100. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

Marty, I think I finally had a light bulb moment...maybe not. haha

I've been thinking about your last post regarding keeping adding back until you reach the SLAM target. When you originally said add 5ppm worth of liquid chlorine I thought that was a volume amount. It's not, it's a reading. I thought the 1.5 gallon recommendation was 5ppm based on pool size. I believe what you were saying is to continue adding chlorine until I get a reading (until it reaches the 5 number on the plastic reader in my kit) of 5ppm. Just like with the SLAM target, when I get the new kit, I"ll keep adding FC until I reach the 27 SLAM target. I'll make the initial Pool Math recommended dump, test every 2-3 hours, then keep adding back until I get to 27.

Because the chlorine I've been putting in is getting eaten up by the sun and as it eats the algae, I need to keep putting in more until I reach the 5ppm right now. I can do that with my Poolmaster kit until the TF100 arrives. I need to put more chlorine in, I'm only at 1.75 ish currently.

The 5 ppm recommendation is to just try and maintain status quo until you have a test kit that you can get reliable data from. So no, just add the 1.5 gallons of 10% daily (which add about 5 ppm FC to your pool water) until you get the reliable test kit. Then switch to a true SLAM process based on real data.

Good morning TFP!

I haven't ditched out on you. There has been a problem with USPS and the delivery of my test kit. It was supposed to be here Monday. According to tracking it arrived here locally Sunday morning, shipped out from Dallas to Fort Worth and then vanished into thin air. If it doesn't arrive today, I'll open a ticket with USPS and contact TF Test Kits.

I'm bummed, I really wanted to get this process started and behind me so I can use the dang pool!

Have a great day!

Still no TF-100 kit that was supposed to be here Monday. TF Test kit customer service is lacking to put it nicely. About to bail on the whole TF-100 program and order a Taylor kit from Amazon which would be here in 2 days. I'd like to use my pool this summer.

Sorry to hear about your delivery issues. I assume you have contacted TFTestkits via email and/or telephone.

@jddurango Hey! Sorry, the kit is not there. It looks like you ordered 04/30/20 at night and we shipped 05/01/20 per policy. I've sent a tracking number and just checked on it for you. I have written several emails to you back and forth. So, I'm not sure why you are saying customer service is lacking. Unfortunately once it leaves our hands it is in the care of the postal service. I will resend your tracking number again if you like.
