Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

To clarify on this - going 1/2 of slam + polyquat 60 algaecide is after actually going to slam level, doing an
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test & then letting fc fall to 1/2 of slam then adding the polyquat.
Yes of course !!! I was just having him decide a general path before we got into the nitty gritty. :ROFLMAO:

Excellent explanation as always. :salut:

I will bring my pool to slam level the night before he comes. Usually 1st or 2nd week in September. He drains filter and takes apart most exterior stuff and shuts off everything then covers pool. Just a bit too much for me. I do the opening which is a ton of work for just me. But easy enough and the only hard part is the labor of stretching the cover out and washing it snd brushing it and drying it and folding it away. Takes a long time but keeps cover young and fresh. So as mentioned i will bring to slam the night before he comes to close. I will just add bleach and no algicide because as mentioned he doesn’t even put in bleach. So already i will be better prepared. And if my chemicals remain like they are now all i would need is a little over 1 gallon for slam level. Not to bad

Hello again people. Happy Saturday. I just did most tests again. My fc is stable at 6.5. My ph hovers between 8 and 8.2. My CYA is definitely 50. Now my question is in my TA. I am going to attach 2 pics and please let me know by the color in the vial what u think my TA should b recorded at. The color shades are 1 drop more but look at the lighter shade and tell me if that us considered red??

The ta test is over when there is no further change. So if its the same color at 12 drops as it is at 11 drops then the ta is 110.

Also, with the fc - aim for high target 🎯 so you have plenty of wiggle room incase you miss a day, have a high uv day, higher bather load or whatever.

I always aim for 9 minimum and 10 usually. But as for my TA from my pics. The first pic was in between green and pinkish. The more it spun the less pink it became. So its really the second pic for my TA
It generally turns pink then a deeper pink then it doesn’t change- you don’t count the drop that didn’t change.

Have not used any chemicals except bleach
Just think of how many hundreds of pounds of unnecessary things you added over the last decade.

Thanks for believing in us enough to give it a try. Does Mrs Monte still think we're crazy or has she come around ?

This has been an all time TFP thread to follow. I think I chimed in early on so that kept me connected and I was sure we scared off Monte for good, sometime around page 2.

Off season challenge- convince Monte to go swcg! Somewhere in here he objected on account of it seeming lazy, so maybe we can convince him to just do some extra push ups (not that he appears to need it) in the time that would've otherwise been spent jug lugging to make up for it.

It saves money long term too.

But please answer Newdude's question about Mrs Monte first. 😊

I always tell her to look how beautiful the [pool looks and I tell her that the pool has to be maintained when she asks why am I out there sp often. I tell her that I backwash once a month and brush the walls and vacuum once per week. I like to vacuum manually a lot because I think it allows me to really do a good job. And I tell her that my hard work has really paid off and I think she really understands. So yes we are all good :):):)

push-ups?-- that's an old hat for me-- I absolutely am an exercise freak. Ben that way for decades. At 66- If not for my bad eating habits- love pizza and burgers and ice cream and stuff like that- I actually might have an award-winning physique- but I feel great physically and am pretty darn healthy as well and have lots of nervous energy that makes me never slow down. All good things. But yes I was about to jump ship early on- and I apologize for going awol for a bit back then but then decided to give it another try and I am glad I did and the results show. I call myself a professional pool boy for the family now(HA HA). But I need you to decipher one thing you said-- about the off-season statement--- you said to convince me to go SWCG-- what is that? :)

I just typed it in and I believe it means salt water chlorine generator. Sounds interesting- but give me a break big guy-- I just got this down pat- let me enjoy this way for a bit more and we shall see (LOL)

If you want to buy your pool a birthday present the SWCG will be the perfect gift.
Just for my information- and if anyone else wants to add their thoughts- what would be the cost to do this conversion- and why would I want to do this- especially being that in my lifetime I always stand by the old motto- if it aint broke don't fix it. I finally got this down to a decent science sort of thing and pools have been around forever and this salt stuff is fairly new for backyard pools. I actually went in the pool today(it was not very hot today) and the pool was a bit chilly but the water was so very refreshing. As stated the only thing I have added since the beginning has been the bleach I purchase from Walmart at $5.67 per gallon. So I think maybe I would spend about $100 per season on bleach at the most- so how much better could I possibly get? What real plus would it be for me to convert? And I know there is maintenance with that style also and there would be a purchase of the salt as well. Not sure if at this time I want to change. I am very proud of how I listened to you all and everything worked out fine. I do the pool tests and the pool math and add the bleach as needed. Nothing else needs to be added this year- isn't that amazing? So I think I will give this method another go around and see what next year brings.
By the way, stay tuned all- for Labor Day is not far away and closing is around the corner - I will be asking a few more questions about the night before as I mentioned earlier what I should add to prepare my pool for a safe and happy off-season and see what next years opening looks like.. with your help and recommendations. Thank you all again.

why would I want to do this-
Well, you know how you go to the store and transport jugs in the backyard, then add them daily ? Imagine this....... you test the water and decide it needs a skootch more/less FC. So you waltz over to the SWG and press *one* button. For the next couple of weeks, you only test and get low key sad when it doesn't need you for anything.

When the next time comes that you have to push a button, you race over there all excited and it's over too quick and you're sad again.
if it aint broke don't fix it.
For once, I'm against the OP going salt, at least for the near future. Enjoy your victory lap and really become one with the pool. Down the road we can use those skills to teach you how to operate the salt pool if you decide to convert.
