Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

Should i try a cal hypo tablet while home and see how long the tablets last in the floating device. Like 2 tablets. And see how it maintains my fc without adding the bleach. Or maybe lets say once per month add a bag of that powershock which is also just cal hypo 68% and see how long that keeps my fc at a target value instead of adding the daily chlorine??
FC will burn off the same. It's all just chlorine once dissolved in the water. If you add the equivalent amount of any form of chlorine, it will last exactly as long as the other.
I surely understand so i guess i am correct in stating that if i am to skip one day i have to double the dose to lessen my workload.
You are correct. Your pool needs the FC it needs and there's no 2 ways about it.
I understand it is less work but not converting for the lazy lifestyle
It's also considerably cheaper in the long run. But I don't even care about that because I'm head over heels in love with how lazy it let's me be. I'd pay double or more for it if I had to. But it actually saves me 2x to 3x over LC.

The tablets are slow dissolving so they would help maintain slowly over time (how quickly is the question)
- dumping in the powdered cal hypo is just raising the fc all at once - you can do this with liquid chlorine too (for less $$ per ppm of fc & without also adding calcium to your water)
there is literally no difference in how long it will last as opposed to liquid chlorine- adding fc is adding fc if they are used in equal amounts
I understand really i do and thank u. I was just remembering last year when i was using that powdered shock with trichlor called Greenout. And all i did was put in the bag once per week. So i thought that if i only put in one bag per month lets say would that amount of fc last the week? Again i would monitor the calcium. But isnt it a good thing to know my options? Just in case as with the cal hypo tablets. I really need to experiment for a few days lets say put in 2 tablets and see whar the fc is at the entry of those tablets and see when they would completely dissolve and see what ppm it kept the fc at so i can understand its properties in my pool. Just again thinking of the old motto. There are 2 sides to every story. But the bottom line is i would know its properties but i would monitor much more than i ever did to keep on top of any negatives?

Shack! Truly fire and almost forget. Just the chlorine storage/buying would drive me nuts. Even if it wasn't so good fiscally I'd still prob go the generating route.

I am going to stay with the liquid diet but i just thought i should know how long those tablets would stay whole before they disintegrate. Nothing more? I appreciate the chart. They both would increase the fc the same. Believe it or not that bag of cal hypo
Powder is $1.99 on sale for 16 oz

Let the past stay dead. You made it a decade without having a clue what your #s were, or what you were adding.

It was a miracle you didn't have a swamp, or sick swimmers, each year.

Now that you can test yourself with legit results, you are free to monitor and use trichlor / calhypo (when your levels can withstand the addition). But they'll still just be FC that burns off as fast as it burns off.

The difference previously was that you often went low and didn't know. Now you know. You'll be adding all the time no matter what. Nothing will last a week at the proper levels.

Well if i ever switch what is the cost of conversion from my pool to a salt pool. Just want to keep it in the back of my mind
As a total spitball guess, I like to double the cost of a full system (swg and controller) as an estimate for a full professional install.

If the estimate comes in at less than double the equipment cost, be happy its cheaper, but at least you didn't get sticker shock.

U know i spend now about $5.67 per gallon of liquid bleach and as mentioned before that is all i am using now. My pool is pretty forgiving and my TA and ph are pretty stable. So if use 42 ounces per say to keep my fc at 14 or so because my CYA is 80 that means i am using on average / gallons pwr week which is about $12 weekly times it by the season for me which is about 10 weeks thst is $120 of liquid bleach. Not a bad deal. And when my cYA really comes down hopefully by next season i can lower my fc target and lower the quantity of liquid bleach which will also cut my costs. Sounds ok to me.

So long as you know what each thing is doing. There’s no magic in any one product- they all just have certain effects. Just like drugs lol 😊 its all chemistry 🧪

You'll burn off a little less, but for the most part, you'll still lose the same FC per day and have to replenish it.

But whatever it is, you'll actually know. Because you know what you're doing now. I took 7+ years myself because it was too hard to learn and I've kicked myself everyday since.

And you just got your grip on it. It will get much easier as time goes on and by next season you'll be the pool whisperer of you backyard.

A pool sanitized with chlorine already has salt in it. The biggest expense will be the equipment and installation. But with the price of chlorine nowadays, it has been calculated that a salt water chlorine generator is cheaper in the long run.

It has nothing to do with being lazy. You still want to monitor your chemistry. But you don't have to "lug the jugs" and dose manually.

I am 65 and absolutely luv to exercise. Ask my family. I am obsessed. I wear a tank top that has Arnolds terminator face on it saying Come with me if you want to Lift . Exercising has kept me young. So lifting jugs. Pile em on !! 💪💪😊

Pool holding its own. TA still 100. Fc is 11. Ph about 8 to 8.2. And CYA looks around 70. I did it like i was told. I did not look at it constantly. I filled to 100 line then looked then to 90 then looked and so on. It really seems like it is below 80. I added more water yesterday after the july 4 party. So looking good. I am on my way to walmart to buy more bleach and leslies pool store is on the way so i will stop there for a free test and see how my numbers compare🤞
