Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

Don’t stress. It will get back there I promise. Won’t take long either.

You just replaced about 15-20% of the water. Big change. Give it time, keep up the good work you’ve been doing with the chemicals and it will sparkle again in no time. You’ll see.

Ok here goes. Ready. CYA is really as far as i can tell “70”. Wow. The fc is 6.5(13 drops). The TA is 100 and the ph is between 7.5 and 7.8. I also did a cc test. Last time it was Zero. Now it is 0.5 which is also normal. When i did the cc test it turned ever so slightly pink and then on drop of 0871 returned it to clear. So that is it. I al where i want to b. Now i really want to get started on getting the pool back to clear again. The filter is on and i am almost to that second screw of the skimmer plate. Can i add the chorine bleach now at 5 pm even though it is still daytime. I will attach some pics of the ph test and the color of my pool

My daughter looked at the comparator block. The ph is actually closer to 7.5. And the fc is definitely a little brighter than the top of the block so it also is no longer orange. I will add 42 ounces as poolmarth says since i said my CYA was 75(to have a little leeway) and my target fc of 11 and it said 42 ounces. Again can i do it now or wait till dusk????

 Monte’s below 80!! Way to go!!

Yes you can go ahead and add some more chlorine now. It will only help clear things up. Keep the filter running too. It will look better in the morning.

Sorry again. Should i do a robot vacuum? If my tests are like this why is my pool green like this. Is it because of the addition of all this gresh hose water. And the chlorine once raised will undo this??? Please say yes. And what about the robot vacuum?

It looked like this last time you did a big drain and fill. Be patient. I know it’s hard but don’t worry. You can run the robot if you like but I don’t think you really need to.

Give it time to mix - there’s a myriad of things going on with fill water. When I fill up my hot tub it looks like that for a couple hours until all my adjustments take effect & it filters a bit.
You can always add chlorine any time of day or night- if you need it add it!

As for a robotic cleaner- they’re nice to have but are also expensive. That’s a personal choice not a must have thing so long as you have a way to vacuum your pool.

I added 46 ounces of bleach for ( 4 extra for good luck) LOL. Brushed sides of pool
And pool floor and walked around pool stirring 4 times. Ha ha. Fingers crossed. This was my last big drain of the year. I am now down a bit over 100 points from last year. Lots of work. Usually hard work pays off. I am very old school. Thats what i believe about working at something. So if my CYA stays at 70 or drops a bit more by end of season i am ecstatic. Next year i will get it down more and thats that as they say😊

Will the ph edge up a bit now that i added more chlorine. I added a total of 50 ounces. Stopping for night. Did 46 before and 4 more about 30 minutes ago. My ph seems to have gone up from i think 7.5 to between 7.8 and 8. There is no 8 on the block but it is definitely lower than the top (8.2). Is this normal that it went up or is the extra chlorine skewing the result?

I again want to say how much I appreciate you people. I am almost at post 600 and you people are still hanging in with me. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you. You guys really care for others which is a great attribute. Thank you all. And you are giving me the strength and will to forge ahead knowing you have my back with your expertise.

Don't worry about the PH tonight. It's just fine where it is. Adding the chlorine won't make the PH change. 7.6 to 7.8 isn't a big difference and it could just be normal testing error. You know, lighting and all. Remember, what you added before probably put you over 10 chlorine so yes, the result could be a little bit skewed now.

I'd go with the results you had earlier before you added the chlorine.

You've been hanging in there busting your tail doing this Monte. Most people wouldn't have stuck it out doing this like you have. NO WAY we wouldn't hang with you. It's been a great journey so far and I'm looking forward to the next bit as well.

I think most people on here have trouble free pools now and are bored because it’s so easy and like hopping on here to help others!

I’m very impressed with how far you’ve come in a little over a month, looking back on your first post it looks like most of us when we started. I still remember when I first started and was SLAM’ing with 12 instead of 12,000 gallons in pool math. I was literally adding chlorine by the Tbsp haha.

Once you get things where you want them start reading through all the articles and soon you’ll become an expert. I’m pretty sure anyone who is on here helping people along the way has had an experience just like yours, and we’d welcome more people to dive in and help others the same way!
