Opening advice needed

I'm wanting to open our above ground pool and need some advice.

Our cover did not stay on during the winter, so the water is currently olive green with a decent amount of leaves at the bottom.

I've used the net to scoop out most of the leaves, but am unsure how to proceed.

I assume I have to completely drain, clean, and refill, but my wife wonders if we can pump out the dirty water, refill, and chemical our way to clean.

To add a layer of difficulty, this can be a windy time of year, so having an above ground pool empty increases the likelihood of it blowing off our pad / wrinkling the liner.

Thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Welcome to TFP! To kill and remove algae, we recommend the SLAM Process. When followed properly it does a great job. In some cases, it is best to do a water exchange, if not 100% at least a good amount. That exchange can help to dilute the heavy organic load, but is some areas water is cheaper than numerous bottles of liquid chlorine. But those are your options.

For the SLAM Process or any other good water management you need to ensure you have a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit. That's very important. See the link in my signature if needed. Also be sure to checkout our Pool Care Basics for lots of great info.

If you have any questions let us know.
