Opened Up to Brown Pool

So I came back from our weekend vacay and I think my "helper" messed up. When I test my free chlorine, my sample turns red, not pink. I'm showing: FC 31.5, CC 1.5... Should I be freaking out?
The water is still cloudy but I can see futher down.

Just keep the water moving :D

You won't need to add FC for a bit. But once the sun gets on the pool, that will drop fast with no CYA protection. Wait until it drops down to your CYA/shock level and then continue

Well, you're pool definitely has enough chlorine at the moment right? For a CYA of 30, you're over 2.5x the limit. Best to hope for a sunny day and let the sun bring that FC back down to 12. It will, but it may take a day or two. Hopefully won't be up there long enough to mess with your liner. In the meantime, continue with business as usual and follow the SLAM Process instructions.

Still Slamming and have a teal pool.
Holding tight at 14 ppm Free Chlorine & 0 Free Chlorine.
Should be FC be 0?
My robotic cleaner is also picking up sand.

If you are getting sand in the pool from the filter the laterals in the sand filter are most likely compromised.

I am not an expert on sand filters. Lets see if @JamesW can give you some guidance.

As long as you were careful adding sand and didn't break a lateral with the sand or overfill it, it should be okay. But you can try to capture some at the return jet with a nylon or something to see if it looks like the sand you added. It should've been #20 silica pool sand.

Your set-up is straight forward. The water should be showing improvement by now, especially with that chlorine bomb from a couple days ago. Can you post a pic of your filter set-up please? Also, just to humor us ... can you describe your FC testing please? Sample size, color changes, # of drops, etc. Just to ensure we're not missing something simple.

I'm filling the tube to the 10 ml line then adding 2 scoops of powder. It instantly turns to pink. I then add 1 drop at a time and swirling until it changes to clear.
29 drops to clear x .5 is 14.5 ppm for free chlorine.

Water temp is 68 degrees with no cover.

The water in the pool has increased due to a refill from my water hose, city water supply.

I feel like I should get in to clean. Maybe there is more leaves than what Im catching from the outside.

I'm netting, vacuming and brushing daily.

So I took the plunge yesterday and hopped in and cleaned my pool. It was cold! I was expecting to find tons of leaves, but I only cleaned out about 8 of them. What I did net out was small Crud and little branches. There is a Darn ton of sand close to the filter against the wall. My cleaner couldnt pick it all up. Im gonna have to get creative here. FC is still holding at 13.5. I'm down to 1 backwash a day (pressure is holding) It was late out by the time I got to my pool, but I SWEAR I could see further down. Maybe I'm just nuts. Pictures tomorrow in the daylight.

So, I left my free chlorine drop back down to normal and re tested ph and its fine. But I did find my problem. Attached are my pictures of the sand I've vacumed up from the bottom of my pool. I've inspected the laterals in my tank and everything looks good. Seems to me that what we purchased is too fine. Even though its #20 sand. Other Intex users are having the same issues. Went to Ace hardware and purchased two bags of HTC sand to replace.
I've also had 2 ducks in my pool for who knows how long. They have been depositing poop in there too.

Glad to hear the water is looking good. That is odd about the sand, and I do see from some searching that other Intex owners experienced similar issues. Hopefully the HTC works for you. Since you will have it empty, I would give it one last inspection (inside) to make sure the laterals, connecting knuckles, and center pipe are all god. As always, make sure to add some water to the filter before dumping the sand inside. Hope that works out.

Thank you! Will do! I can see the bottom of my pool today! Very dirty, but hey I can see it! I've had my pump shutoff for about 4 days now. Just adding chlorine daily to keep the bugs out.
