OMNI PL Strange Error

So yesterday, I noticed a temperature alarm. It seems that all three temperature sensors (air, pool and solar) are not functioning. No way three sensors all died at once.

rebooted / restarted / cold-started the OMNI

no change.

firmware shows up to date.

opened up the control box, all wires connected, no evidence of damage, etc.

any ideas on this one?

I kind of want to do a full factory reset (I did back up configuration and backup files to USB) --- but .... scares me.

of course, our unit went out of warranty in July 2024.

open to ideas before I order a new PCB

?

Do some diagnostics.

Test the temperature sensors using a multimeter.

Get 10K resistors and install them in place of the temperature sensors. If the 10K resistors do not read 76F then the board is bad.

Sounds like there is a loose connection someplace.

The schematic above may not match your Omni, FWIW.

Lets get clear on the exact error as James suggested.

All your temp sensors are on the same terminal block. So I'd start there looking for loose connections. Image below may be a closer match to your panel if it's a few years old. Center block is your sensor block.

thank you for the replies. below is a picture of the Omni PL upper sensor block. This is where air, water and solar temperature sensors come into the board.

the error that I am seeing is a notification on the Hayward app saying that the air, water and solar temperature sensors are OPEN.

when this happens, the pool goes into freeze protect (a PITA)

this morning, the errors were present before the automation turned the pool on. Now the alarms (3) are clear and it's functioning fine.

the likelihood that all three sensors have failed = improbable.

I have removed the block, removed and re-seated all three sensor inputs.... rebooted and did several complete shutdowns (power off to PCB) the input block is fine and does not have any burn marks or apparent damage - either does the PCB. I did a factory reset and restored the pool config from my USB backup. Didn't fix it.

this appears to be intermittent. we haven't had any power surges or lightning, so I doubt that's a cause. it appears that each input has a resistor network and transistor FOR EACH INPUT - so again, the likelihood that all three of these died at the same time would be improbable (barring a lightning hit)

app version is the latest, pool firmware is the latest.

when the errors return I will go out and check resistance across each of the sensors to see if they are ok.

of note, don't know if related - just more information. these three temperature alarms (air, solar and water) are alarming through the night (logged as emails from Hayward) -- even though the system is off.

I have not studied the board yet in detail, but I am willing to bet this is a power problem from the board to the sensors.
