I looked through here, but could not find an answer. Has anyone found a replacement or work arobund for a stripped nut sleeve for the band on the old style Hayward DE filters? I would hate to have to buy a new filter because of a $10.00 part. The body and grids are in great shape. Thanks.

Sure. It's a Hayward Pro Grid 4820. About 8 years ago, Hayward changed the band that kept the two halves of the filter housing together on all of the Pro Grid filters. They almost immediately stopped making replacements for the old band, o-ring and screw assembly. There was a notice here about it for a number of years. The nut sleeve on my unit stripped and unless I can figure a way to put it together without it I will have to buy a whole new filter. The sleeve is a 5/16 - 24 thread and inserts in a spring. I am wondering if I can just use a coupling nut and not use the spring. That seems to be my only alternative.

Hayward discontinued manufacturing of all parts for that band, so you will not be able to find OEM replacement parts unless someone has NOS. My store gets an aftermarket sleeve nut that as far as I know is one of the few, if not the only one made. It's sold to us through a distributor that's east coast US only. Don't know where you're at but if you are east coast you could try to find a local store that deals with Baystate/APC and have them special order it for you. Either that or if you want to PM me I could give you my store's info and I could get you set up with a new nut.
