Is it common to get gunk along the water's edge after purging with Ahhsome and refilling?

The last two times I drained/refilled my tub, I purged with Ahhsome following the directions. I continued to get brown gunk around the water's edge for several days after refilling.

This time, I purged with Ahhsome 3 times, wiping everything down between purges. The 3rd purge showed no additional gunk removed. I then completely drained, refilled and balanced chemicals.

I continue to have brown gunk accumulating along the water's edge. Am I doing something wrong or is there a magic number of purges to get the gunk out?

This is a relatively new, low use Sundance spa.

Which Ahhsome product did you use? Gel or the liquid?

After your purge with Ahhsome and refill with fresh water, did you add any product to your fresh fill that may contain a "cleaner" in it? For example, did you add AquaClarity or Total Cleanse to the fresh fill? This exact thing happened to me
on one of my 4 purges. I wiped it down the second day and it never returned. For what it's worth, I will run pumps 3-4 times and let it sit overnight and run pumps one more time the next morning before I drain.

I'll get gunk for a couple of days after a purge. I went 10 months using AquaClarity. Lots more gunk than the last time I purged.

I am switching to April and September purges and refills for warmer fill water.

I'm confused. You got more gunk after using AquaClarity for 10 months? Shouldn't you get less gunk?? I get virtually no gunk after using AquaClarity on a weekly basis.

No worries.
Look at it this way,
It’s doing exactly what you want it to do- the residual ahhsome is getting the crud out of your plumbing.
Just wipe it away with a rag so it doesn’t dry there on your shell.
It happens to me sometimes- it’s why I always do 2 purges even if the first one is pretty clean. I woke up to some pretty gross stuff one morning after a purge.
I also add the refill water into my filter compartment so it comes out of the jets then drain the footwell again to help remove any leftover ahh some. There’s just something about it sitting over a long period of time that helps it remove more gunk. Like soaking a dish overnight. So for real bad tubs we often recommend letting the ahhsome sit in the tub overnight after the bulk of the gunk has been removed already.
*Not sure how you’re doing your purges but each subsequent purge only needs 1/2 the Ahhsome as the initial one.

It is quite common for residual sticky brownish gunk to hang around a day or so after purging. As Joe Self says, wipe it away with a towel a few times. Depending on the gallon age and amount of use, hot tubs not using Aqua Clarity on a weekly basis should be purged every 3-6 months. With Aqua Clarity you can go much longer. I purge my hot tub here in Florida every December.
I get practically zero biofilm released as the Aqua Clarity is constantly on duty sweeping the piping and jet internals. Added weekly with an effective sanitizer does a fantastic job for me. I know that hot tub owners are bombarded with chemical programs that promise ease of maintenance and healthy and pristine water quality. In my opinion, not because we make it, our Aqua Clarity Concentrate is the single best weekly maintenance product available. It is also inexpensive. For under $89 for an entire year in a 400 gallon hot tub. Could we charge 3 or 4 times that? Absolutely! We don’t because we are out to help every hot tub owner have the best and healthiest water at an incredible cost savings. We made a 55 year career out of helping pool and hot tub owners maintain water for swimming and soaking. The industry has been very good to our company and we are continuing to help anyone who needs assistance even if they don’t use our products.
