Northlake, TX New Pool Build

Thanks Big Will...I think I may be a little obsessive over the water chefs but my two grandkids have very sensitive skin. It is so good to have Suz, pooldv and Kim holding my hand thru this. The Texas sun is eating my bleach like crazy but I test atlas 3 times a day and add as required. I only post results on here once or twice a day but will continue to do so until things settle and I get my SWG turned on....

Ctrav I must tell you thanks! I have been following your testing closely and it has help me make sure I'm doing mine correctly and I also learned a lot from your post and the help you received so I didn't need to ask the questions twice.
It just goes to show that everything is worth asking and posting and you never know who it will help :)

Ditto the above. Very informative.

Good morning...current results

FC 9
CC 0
pH 7.8
TA 70
CH 175
CYA 40
CSI -0.10
Temp 87

After my initial test yesterday morning (which is posted) I continued to test at noon and 5pm. My FC did not drop below 6 and CC was 0. I added the recommended amount of bleach each time to bring the FC back up to a level of 9 as suggested by pooldv and Suz. My last test and bleach addition was at 10pm. The results this morning are spot on for FC but I will now add MA to lower my pH. Things are looking good and I will continue to post results each morning.

Suz I spoke to PB and we agreed to not turn on SWG until the weekend of August 5 since pool was opened for swimming on July 1.

I am very pleased that the info posted is being helpful to others...

So we are getting down to the last stages of overall renovations. Here is a brief list and a few new pics.
1. Built pool with extra decking
2. Extended main patio
3. Added stairs from the main patio to deck with lights
4. Built retaining wall
5. Installed gate around extended patio for child safety
6. Installed 2 Texas Red Oaks and 1 Texas Live Oak
7. Redid the front landscaping with edging and ground barrier for grass/weed control
8. Trenching yard for new irrigation in the backyard to cover the entire property
9. Installation of new sod in backyard and some plants (still under construction)

I'm so glad you decided to wait 30+ days before switching to your SWG system. And you have an awesome PB to agree (along with the rest of the great things he's done)! My thinking is - why not wait and follow what research has proven. And besides, Mama Suz is a worrier and errs on the side of caution.

:bounce::bounce::bounce: Fabulous! What a great list! The front landscaping is beautiful. I love vitex trees. The safety fence is quite handsome and suits everything. And the 'T' is perfect.

I bet you're tired from digging all those trenches! Big Will must have given you some tips! :laughblue::laughblue: (I'm so funny...)

Is the multi-trunked tree a mesquite? I'm not usually a fan of mesquites, but this one has a lovely shape - perfect for your ranch! (every good Texas ranch has to have at least one mesquite!) If not a mesquite tree, what is it?

If it's not too late, and it's not already planned (you're always a step ahead of me).... Do ya'll like to have outdoor potted plants but like me, forget to water them? Ask the irrigation guys to add some drip lines for places you would like some plant pots. It's cheap and easier to do now. He might even toss that in for free. They're just short, thin tubes with a small stake to hold it in place in the pot. I had about 5 places added. Each one had a group of 3 lines to use for groupings of 3 or fewer pots. Each line can be twisted to 'off' if you don't need it.

You are really creating quite a place!

What a wonderful home you have! The updates make it purrfect! It is all so pretty in the front. I am sure the back will look as good when you get done with it!!!

Nice job on the pool water control! It looks like it is all really clicking now. Suz is awesome and has you on the right track!

Suz just so you know I am averse to manual labor so no digging for me :) I think it may be gofers .

What a great idea for the potted plants! Yes I already had them added...(JUST KIDDING). I will speak with landscaper for sure on this one. Thanks so much for that... I truly appreciate the kind words on my personal touches and overall project!!

Good morning...
FC 9.5

FC did not fall below 6 yesterday and pH was 7.5 prior to adding bleach last night.
ISSUE - my granddaughters have sensitive skin (one more so than the other). Since i have raised the FC from between 3-5 to trying to keep it at 9 both girls feet are peeling. I have about 3 weeks before the SWG gets turned on. Any thoughts on this??

Good morning, Cliff! Your numbers look really good.

Poor little ones.... You've been doing a great job watching the FC and pH, and you are much more comfortable with managing the water. How do you feel about lowering the FC to 7 to see if that helps their feet? That means, you may need to continue testing and adding bleach more often (for now).

Keep in mind other factors could be contributing. It's only been 11-12 days since your pool was filled. There may be an adjustment period for their skin. I know that's important, so let us know if that makes a difference - just give it a few days to see if it helps.

Is the peeling just on their feet? If so, what about the girls wearing a water shoe? Here's a sample - and they have purple!!!

WM might have some, too.

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Hi there Suz - I wish it was just there feet but I checked the girls all over and there is definitely skin irritation! Yes I will lower the FC to keep it above 5 and test more often. I will only do full test 2-3 times a week and test FC every 4 hours as best I can.

Thanks for the great recommendation on the water shoes :)

There is always a rush to judgment to blame chlorine for any problems seen when someone swims in a pool. Chlorine has wrongly been the villain for a long time. I won't say that it is impossible but it is incredibly unlikely that elevated chlorine is the problem. The problem may not be the pool at all for that matter, the pool is only one input. Two years ago we had some algae growing in the waterfall at the tile line so I SLAMed the pool for a week or so. We swam every day with FC at 25-28 with CYA at 70 and nobody even noticed the elevated chlorine level. We routinely spend all weekend, 6-8 hours per day, in the pool with FC between 10 and 12 if people are coming over and also no issue. We've been doing this for years.

This chart, Pool Water Chemistry, by Chemgeek shows that FC at shock level for your CYA is less harsh than a pool with 1 ppm FC and no CYA. This due to the buffering properties of CYA.

High or low PH is far more likely to irritate eyes and skin than FC.
