I've owned a pool for 35-ish years (in ground concrete pool first then moved and installed above ground), but I have never been "in charge" of chemicals, until now. I have a 24 ft round with Hayword pump & sand filter. We've used chlorine most of the 35 years, until we went went to Baquicil (which I loved) for 7-8 years. Last year we had water mold and never got rid of it completely so we switched back to chlorine again. We threw the sand in the filter away at that time and went to glass media filter material. We've only used big box store's test kits. It seems I need to order a Taylor one or a Ben's (not sure what that is yet). We used pool life chlorine tablets this year until we ran out 2 weeks my husband picked up some walmart chlorine tablets. That's when the trouble started, moderately cloudy water, can still see the bottom. I have poured 2 1/2 gallons of bleach in the pool that past 2 days and it's clearing up! I am a bit concerned about the liner and pump but even more upset over the cloudy water. I also treated the pool with algaecide before I started adding bleach. That didn't help much. Today I purchased big bag of Arm & Hammer baking soda & some extra bleach. The test kit I have said my levels are all ok. We live in a small town pop 3000 about 100miles from Nashville, zero pool stores nearby but I don't mind driving to one. It's 97 degrees with 70% humidity which = miserable. I am semi-retired (retired then got bored and starting a part time thing). Anywho, these forums have been super helpful & interesting to read, thank you & wish me luck on my new "in charge" of chemicals position. I am happy to learn from you & be here.
