New to Salt Generators and my Hayward Goldline Aquarite T Cell 15 is going bad after 6.5 years and from reading it appears thats better than average . Looking now at what options and looking for recommendations from those with more experience :
- My pool is 25000 gals but the installer put in a 40000 gal cell . Is this normal to oversize the cell and thus the reason for longer life ?
- Or am I wasting money on larger capacity cell and should just purchase a 25000 gal ?
- See lots of non OEM cells and was looking for recommendation if should stay with Hayward or are the OEM equal ?
- If the non OEM makes sense any recommendation on which took at and where to buy and those to stay away from

We rec a swg rated 2X your volume or even more. The big chunk of the cost is getting in the game. Upsizing units gives considerable more lifespan than it costs. You're literally buying your next cell (or a part of it) at a steep discount.

For example, going 20k to 40k gets 100% more life. It's like buying two 20k units. But the 40k costs about 20% more. So it's like buying you next cell at 80% off. Upgrade again and it's another 20% in cost (44% compounded) for 3X the life of the 20k. (20k to 60k). It's a no brainer on every level.

Then the larger cells need proportionately less runtime, saving pump electricity also. A 1X needs 24/7 runtime to produce enough FC. A 2X does the same in 12 hours. A 3X in 8 hours. And so on.

As with anything where there is a sea of generics, YMMV. The best you can realistically hope for is that the cell lives long enough per the cost savings. For example, a cell that was half the price broke even at half the lifespan.

g,

At today's pricing your current 40K cell cost you about $150 a year...

The T15 is one of the best cell's on the market and I am not even a Hayward fan.

You almost always get what you pay for.

Thanks,
