Posting for a friend. He has an inground pool with a simple setup. I didnt see any valves. Pipe to pump to side port valve to sand filter then return line. We added water to filter and pump get a few ripples then it stops. I added some pictures for reference. Thank you in advance!

Sandy,

A few things to check...

1. That pump uses a square O-ring that I hate.... Make sure it is well lubed and that it fits well..

2. With the power off, reach under the pump basket and feel inside the impeller area for leaves or other debris.

3. Put the filter MVP into the recirculate mode and see if the pump will prime. This mode by-passes the filter.

4. You could use a Drain King to force water backward from the pump into the skimmer, just to make sure that the skimmer line is not plugged.

5. If the pool is closed in the winter, make sure all the plugs are removed from the skimmer.

Thanks,

Jim R.

We had it on circulate and same result just a few ripples then nothing. He bought a new head gasket and cover for the pump. We checked the skimmer return and basket is empty and no real suction or water moving. Pump and filter were filled with water. Can’t see main drain but if it blocked. But he used a brush on pole to go over the drain.

Sandy,

Since you only have one pipe into the pump, the main drain is plumbed into the bottom of the skimmer. Unless there is some kind of floating diverter under the skimmer basket, the main drain will not work.

Thanks,

Jim R.
