No Chlorine in Pool!

I have been having trouble getting any type of chlorine reading in my pool. All other parameters have been sitting in range. I use liquid chlorine and the pump is working and the chlorine is being fed through the pump. The water looks clear as well. I have tried PHOS OUT treatment twice, and Burnout twice. I have also tried cleaning out the filters. Any other ideas as to why the chlorine isn't reading/holding in my pool?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. What test kit do you use and does it measure Cyanuric Acid? That is the key level to know so that you can match your chlorine level to it. If you don't have enough CYA (stabilizer) then the chlorine burns off way too fast. We recommend the Taylor K2006c or the TF Testkits TF100 or TFPro so that you can measure all of the water chemisty properly. Stay away from the pool store chemicals and follow the teachings here. Check out the Pool School tab on the left.

Hi! I use the Taylor testing kit, so yes it does test cyanuric acid. The cyanuric acid levels in my pool are around 40 right now.

What do you mean the chlorine is being fed through the pump?

You probably need to bump up the chlorine dispenser then if your CYA measurement is accurate. For CYA of 40 in a chlorine pool your target FC is 5-7 ppm and no lower than 3 ppm after the hottest parts of the sunny day.

You don't happen to have one of the cheap yellow liquid chlorine testers, do you? One of the things they are good at is giving a definitive "Yes/No" answer to if there's chlorine in the water, which might be helpful to rule out the unlikely possibility that there is a problem with your FAS-DPD test.

Strange that you have measurable CYA which rules out ammonia, but cannot measure FC. How much chlorine are you adding? What is your target? If only dosing to 1-2ppm, then algae could easily consume that before testing later.

When you add chlorine - target 5ppm and then test after 30 minutes.
