No chlorine after adding calcium hardness

This is my second summer with a pool. It is a 21 foot round above ground pool.

At the end of last summer, I had trouble keeping my chlorine high enough. My cya was always low.

I had my water tested by a local pool supply store after I opened the pool this season. They recommended stabilizer for the cya and calcium hardness plus for low levels on calcium hardness.

Before I added the calcium hardness, my FC was 6.24 after a shock. I left my cover off and decided to add the calcium while I was not using the pool. At the end of the same day, my test strips were not registering any chlorine. Since then, I shocked the pool and upped my chlorinator and still no chlorine registering.

Ph - 7.2
Alkalinity - 98
Calcium hardness - 224
FC - .12
Total chlorine - .12
Cya - 46
Phosphates - 360

Any ideas on how to get the chlorine back up?

First you need to get a real test kit and do your own water testing.

This will give you accurate readings so we can help you. Untill you get a kit you should be adding enough liquid chlorine to add 5 ppm chlorine to your pool each day. This may or maynot resolve your issues, but it will prevent the water from getting worse until you can test the water.

Once you have a test kit you need to maintain a chlorine level in accordance to the chlorine/cya chart

Second adding Calcium Hardness does not have an efffect on Chlorine level. Chlorine levels drop from sunlight and algea. At this point even if your pool is not green, you probably have an algea bloom waiting to break through.

I have used nothing but the K2006 test kit for years which the R0870/0871 - best out there. I think I've got an algae problem. Chlorine not holding. Time to buy massive amounts of liquid chlorine.
