Newly Resurfaced Diamond Brite Questions

Hi,
I just had my pool re-surfaced yesterday and filled with fresh new water here in South Florida. Today I put in a sequester agent 32 oz for a 10,000 gallon pool. and I brushed with the metal brush. I saw lot of dust. I will put in 1/2 gallon of acid tomorrow. followed by 1 gallon of chlorine Unfortunately I have to go away tomorrow for two weeks and don't know how to take a leave of absence with my pool. So I have some questions:
1. Would it be OK to leave the pool not dusted for two weeks? Promise I will brush the pool twice every two days when I came back!;)
2. Would the dust be attached to the Diamond Brite that it would be difficult to take it off?
3. Is it sufficient to run 8 hours a day? I will have grandpa put in the acid and the chlorine during my absence.
Thank you for all advices

Welcome to TFP.

1. Would it be OK to leave the pool not dusted for two weeks? Promise I will brush the pool twice every two days when I came back!;)

You run the risk of the plaster dust settling and sticking to the walls. That is why the startup guide says...

Brush the pool walls and floor daily for the first two (2) weeks.

2. Would the dust be attached to the Diamond Brite that it would be difficult to take it off?

Yes, by then it will harden on the walls.

3. Is it sufficient to run 8 hours a day? I will have grandpa put in the acid and the chlorine during my absence.
Thank you for all advices

I would run the pump 24/7. You want to filter out the plaster dust before it sticks to the walls. When you turn off the pump the dust will settle onto the walls. And with little or no brushing the plaster dust will harden on the walls.

DiamondBrite startup recommendations are at...

Thank you ajw22 for the advices. I will try to work it out with my wife, as we were planning a 2 weeks going away, so WE can take care of this investment.
Questions:
1. I came out this morning to brush the pool this morning. I found metal bristle brush moving more dust than the plastic one. Is it OK to use metal bristle brush?
2. The pool store recommended a sequester in the pool running for 24 hours. Then put in 1/2 gallon muriatic acid. Then put in a gallon of chlorine. Does this sound right?

Go easy with the metal brush.

What test kit do you have? You should never blindly put chemicals in your pool without knowing the starting values and what result you expect.

What % is your chlorine?

One gallon of chlorine, if it is 10%, will raise your 10,000 gallon pool by 10 ppm. Your startup guide says to keep chlorine 1 - 3 ppm.

What % is your muriatic acid? Adding 1/2 gallon of MA to your 10,000 gallons will lower your pH by 1.5 and lower your TA by 25. That may take your pH below the 7s.

I would test your pH before adding MA.

If you have not added any chlorine to the water then 1/3 of a gallon of 10% chlorine will be ok.

I brought my water to the pool store for testing. My guess is that they over-simplified it.
I do have an acid meter so I can check that but I will have to get my own test kit to check for % chlorine and other things in city water for correct application. Thank you so much for the info. as I am a newbie at this.
This morning I saw some white spots and white patches. I will try to scrub it out with the smaller brush or maybe the diamond brite was not evenly spread at some spots..
In the guide they forgot to add "Clean the filter". I did that everyday and removed lots of white dust.

I added 1/4 gallon of MA Muriatic acid yesterday (my pump still runs 24/hrs. This morning the pH is still high at 8.9. I wonder as it cures, it releases (-) ions OH- making the pH higher.
The spots and patches are still there even when scrubbed. I will check with the contractor on this.

After a month of scrubbing and cleaning the filter, the spots went away. I have to travel for weeks so I am looking at way to keep the pool clean without much work. So I used copper ionizer and slow release chlorine tabs. It seems to work so far.

Copper ionizer??? NO…NO…NOOOO

Adding copper into your pool water will eventually lead to staining and blonde hair turning green. The only way to rid your water of copper will be draining the pool.

Yes I saw the rod turning green. The basket under the rod seems to catch any by product and after cleaning the rod I put that back to the pool. I saw no stain on the pool surface. Maybe over time (how long) the copper in water accumulated and turning water green? If so I'm going with any alternative like salt or just get back to all chlorine.
I'm thinking of UV bulb sanitizer also. I wonder if they have LED UV sanitizer?

go down and get you a robot today and throw it in the pool.. set it on a 2 hour a day schedule and leave your pump running 24/7.. daily scrubbing of the pool :)
