I'm up way to late but decided I'd make my first post. I had my fiberglass pool installed in October of last year. A friend of ours gave us an extra Pentair testing kit which has seemed to work pretty well so far but I want to be able to test for more things such as CYA levels which the Pentair kit does not. I can test Cl, pH, acid demand, and total alkalinity. The Cl test is a bit challenging, at least to me, to truly visualize the *actual* yellow reading to determine if it's too high or low LOL. I'm just hoping some of you will help me out with a better option, i.e. Taylor kits, etc. I'm sure I'll post questions on here frequently so bear with me.

Thanks!

Welcome to TFP! We recommend either a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit. It will meet all of yoru needs. A link to the TF-100 is in my signature and (IMO) is a better value. Enjoy the forum!

Hello and welcome! You are certainly in the right place if you are ready to "jump in" to your own pool maintenance :laughblue:

My bad puns aside, as Pat said get yourself either the TF-100 or Taylor test kit from his link and you won't be sorry you did.

Y’all rock and thank for the warm welcome! I’ll look more into the TF tests vs the Taylor tests. And hello fellow Texan “Woodyp”. Whereabouts are you located? I’m about 20 miles or so East of Dallas.

Whether you go with the Taylor or TFTestKits model, be sure to pick up a SpeedStir/SmartStir!
I will definitely look into that…thanks!!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Gonna be a bit of a challenge to decide between the TF test kit or the Taylor. I like the box and the fact that the reagents are vertical with the Taylor kits but want to support TF if I can.

Don't be surprised if it becomes an obsession. We're all in the same boat. :)

Question for you Texas Splash (or anyone else that wants to chime in). Is the 2006C necessary? I read that often times the reagents go to waste because they expire too soon. Is the TF-100 Pro a better overall kit than the K-2006 (w/ or w/o the 'C')? I know the Pro comes with a mixer that is supposed to speed up the process instead of capping and shaking the bottle. Does the TF-100 Pro come with a salt testing reagent?

Also, I need help figuring out something on the Pool Math app. I don't know what to put for the "24 hour SWG Chlorine Output" on the pool setup. I cannot find that information anywhere.

Thanks for any help y'all can provide!

I love my pro & if you tried to take it from me there may be some serious fighting gonna happen 😂😂 I believe you can order a salt version but I bought the salt test separately later.

The output you can use the effects of adding in pool math app and elect whichever you want to find out.IMG_2158.png

I still don't get it LOL! I don't know what to plug in under "24 hour SWG output", "SWG%", etc. I don't run my pump for 24hrs. I run it from 7am or 8am for 12 hours. My SWG is not listed under the "24 hour SWG Chlorine Output" search under "Pool Setup". Maybe I'm just too much of a newb to understand.

In this thread post #4 by @JamesW says how much it outputs so you can match up with one in the list.
