Hi everyone,

First of all I want to thank you to all supporters and pool lovers for this wonderful resource. I already went through some blog articles and learned a lot.
My pool has a broken outlet fitting and I'd like to replace it. I don't really know the purpose of this outlet as it has no function, but I'm worried some water might leak there. The problem is the fitting is so stuck I can't turn it anymore. I wonder if it was glued in? Any ideas what I can do or would you just leave it like that?

Another thing are those green/yellow shadows you can see on the plaster. I can't scrub them off. Could it be Algae although my water chemistry is good?

Welcome to TFP! That looks like an old side wall port, perhaps for a cleaner at one time? Maybe you have an old/unknown line at the equipment pad it went to? Either way, it appears to have been plugged at some point. Usually they are just screwed into the hole. That plug/cap looks like it was broken apart. I believe they are just hollow inside so water cannot pass through. You should be able to feel or see to confrim. If the backside of the plug is still intact, it shouldn't be an issue.

As for discoloration or staining, it's hard to see clearly in the pic, but we would certainly advise posting a full set of water test results for us to see what your chemistry looks like. from those results, we have a few testing options you cold perform.

Also be sure to visit our Pool Care Basics page for lots of great info.

I would leave it like that until you replaster your pool.

Looks like stains on old plaster.

How old is the pool and plaster?

This a new pool to you?

Could be metals stains....

The cap is not sealing anymore, the pipe behind is filled with water. I sticked a screw driver into the pipe and could not feel any end. I have this extra pipe coming to the pump which I don't know what it is. Could that be the pipe going to mysterious outlet?
Today when I brushed the pool, it looked like the staining was disappearing. Got to check that again with more light.
Here are my results from today:
FC: 3.0
CC: 0.0
PH: 8.2
TA: 70
CH: 325
CYA: 50

I really don't know how old the pool is. The house has been remodeled last year. To me the plaster looks newer, they probably did the pool.
Yes, this is my first pool. I'm from Switzerland and over there summer was way too short for having a pool :D

Maybe it's an old abandoned cleaner line. It would be ideal to get that old cap out of there so that you can seal it properly to avoid algae growing into the pool. If you can't get a replacement PVC plug to fit back in there, maybe a winterizing plug? There's a lot of them out there with various methods of installation (screw-in, expansion, etc). Or another possibility is just get some water epoxy or plastic weld product and use just enough to seal that broken hole opening. Then you can have it all removed when you have the pool re-plastered in the future.

As for your test results, be sure to lower that pH as soon as you can with muriatic acid. Get to 7.8 or below. I would also increase the FC to about 6-7 ppm and keep the FC to the CYA as noted on the FC/CYA Levels.
