I'm going to have to talk to the coping and tile guy about the elevation of this skimmer. You can see in this picture that the bond beam slopes a little from the pool side towards the skimmer. It's pretty close to being level with the pool side.

All looks good! The Shotcrete is to stay completely hydrated for a week, that’s a lot of water.
Thanks. I have been watering it when it turns light gray. So far about 5 times today and I expect a couple more. Trying to keep it wet. Both my wife and dog are getting jealous, spending much more time with the pool than them.

By the way, is there any issue using soft water to keep the pool hydrated? I can’t believe it matters to the concrete but thought I’d ask anyway. I have the closest spigot set up on soft water which will feed the autolevelor.

Thanks @kimcats, I’ve been looking forward to my own set for about a year! By the way, total cost for the muck out was only about $200 plus pump rental of $42. A bit of extra work on my part to reset rebar chairs and that is all behind us. Not a big cost and I was able to keep on schedule with shotcrete.

Now once gas goes in I can start filling in some trenches. Sand for the plumbing backfill and somewhat screened fill (in other words use excavated soil minus the large rocks) for the gas and electric trenches. Gas is going inside corrugated pipe for protection. Cheaper then importing the fill.

After gas and some backfill the yard will start to return to it’s former ugly self, at least until the landscaper gets started.

Here is my updated timelapse from layout to shotcrete.
Hi Dave,
I am new to this site, pool, and the journey to get to where you are now. Thank you for posting your journey with such details, it has been really helpful reading your posts and the feedback you got (I don’t want to ask the same questions right?). I just wanted to reach out and thank you for taking the time to document your journey.

Hey @Carzmom I'm really glad my thread has helped someone in some way. I have received so much help directly from TFP community I'm glad if my adventure can help in any way. Just reading other build threads has given me a lot to think about and gave me the courage to do this.

As a small update, watering my hole has been a bit therapeutic so I've been at it fairly regularly (way more than 4 times yesterday). A couple times with a beer in hand!. I removed all the boards this morning. That was a chore, glad I did it within a day, I imagine it would only get worse. Now off to order this for the kitchen with all the money I saved building the pool myself (and slightly less exciting errand to get a pry bar and a hook to pull up the rebar).

The Shotcrete is to stay completely hydrated for a week, that’s a lot of water.

You aren’t kidding. In about 30 hours I have used around 700 gallons (going off my water softener’s meter). I might have to cut it back a bit, the pool will be full before I get plaster. 😂🤣😂

I figure I’m using about 50 gallons per watering. I actually checked before and after this morning’s watering and I used 53.

Most people don’t understand the importance of proper hydration of the shell during the first week, you are maximizing the curing PSI of the end product.
+1. I never get it. For the money spent going with gunite, i would have bought a few hoses, sprinklers and a cheapo timer, like your pic.

In my case I had destroyed sprinkler lines out there already that easily could have been repurposed before being fixed. I used one to fill the pool.
