New vinyl liner opening process

Opened the pool April 20 and finished slamming the pool May 15. I had not opened the pool in 2 years. It was pretty nasty. I was vacuuming the pool and brushing a lot. The liner was over 20 yrs old. Bleached completely white. I must have nicked it or something and developed a huge gash. I had just told the kids they could swim tomorrow and later that night i noticed the huge gash. You talk about being bummed out big time!! I almost replaced the liner when we opened and I said to myself, well it's holding water. I will wait till next year when all this Covid mess dies down. Well, I get to replace it now anyway. Pool store came this morning to measure the pool and said it would be 2-3 weeks before they get it in. We are getting a Tara Liners Sandy Bay. My plans going forward. Correct any that may be wrong.
1. Plan on buying a filter for the water hose to fill the pool with. We have city water but have had metal in the pool in the past. Will the filter help? I have never tested the city water but its coming from somewhere. I don't add anything other than bleach, stabilizer and ph up since we have owned the pool. No heater also. Just an old pool with one skimmer and one return.
2. When we start adding water, do I add small amounts of bleach as it fills and stir with a brush?
3. Keep doing this until water fills completely and I can turn the pump on.
4. After turning pumps on, check ph, add stabilizer and slam until complete? Hopefully this slam will be pretty quick.
Also, anything thing I need to look out for while the liner is being replaced. They are putting everything new other than my ladders.

I assume you are doing a self install?

Not really. If the metals are dissolved, a normal filter will not catch it. You can get an ion exchange filter (similar to whole house softener) but for that volume of water, it is not really practical. If the metal is visible (brown water) search this forum on how to use polyfill in a 5 gal bucket.

It would not hurt, but probably just as fine to wait until the pool is full.

As soon as you are full, do a complete round of tests and post here or use the pool math app. I usually add half the amount of chemicals I need at a time to make sure I don't accidentally overshoot.

I would suggest you search 'iron filter' in the forum. Lots of threads come up.
No reason to add bleach while filling. Wait until you can circulate.
When pumps on, add 3 ppm FC. Test/adjust pH. Start dissolving CYA. Should be no reason to SLAM.

No, local pool builder is going to install it. $3000 to install new liner, new face plates, and smooth out the bottoms. I am praying they don't run into any problems when they cut out the old liner. I don't really know how old this pool is and what shape the walls are in. The pool builder I am using put the old liner in over 20 years ago.

We had Copper that was showing up in the water test the last time the pool was open. The water had a weird blue tint to it this year too. No stains on the liner this year. Just not sure where it came from.

Yes. A lot of copper adding stuff must have been used in the old pool. Do not use that stuff. No need. Follow TFPC.
