New to TFP pool chemistry

Hi all,
Although I have owned this pool for many years I have read pool school and I am in the middle of converting out of pool store chemistry and into the TFP
way of doing things. I had an algae problem and I used Cal Hypo to slam it. I brought the FC to 15 and held it there for two days. The pool looks much better
and I vac'd the grey algae on the bottom to waste but the pool is cloudy. Today...I saw some additional algae on the walls so I obviously didn't kill it.
I am using a Taylor Kit 2005 from last year so I am missing the FAS DPD and have ordered it separately so I don't have the true CC results but the water
test results are:
FC 4.0
TC 2.0
PH 7.2
ALK 100
CH 220
CYA 30
Can anyone give me some pointers on what to do next to clear the water and kill the algae. Trying to educate myself to the new TFP way of doing things. Thanks

While you are waiting on your FAS=DPD test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.

SLAM stands for Shock Level And MAINTAIN. 2 days does not equal a SLAM. You have to bring the FC up to the level required by your CYA, and keep it there until you pass the three criteria that herald the end of the SLAM: crystal clear pool, OCLT of 1 or less, and CC of 0.5 or less. I don't see where you did any of these things.

Please reread the following articles and try them once you have your FAS-DPD kit.

Hi all,

Finally got my FAS-DPD chemistry but with 13 out of 14 days of rain lately, I am just doing my first TFP SLAM. The CYA was at 38 and the pool had algae before I began the slam. The 38 on CYA indicated a FC shock PPM of 15.
Here is the most recent test:

FC 15 (using FAS-DPD)
CC 2 (using FAS-DPD)
PH 7.4
ALK 100
CAL 280
CYA 38

The pool is now pretty clear after vacuuming and brushing today. I am now in my 2nd day at 15PPM but i have a few questions:

1. With the CC at 2, how long will this take to come down to below 0.5?

2. Is there any purpose in conducting a OCLT with the CC at 2 or do I want the CC down first.

I'm still learning so looking for some help from the experts! Thanks in advance.

You cannot measure a CYA of 38 ppm. Round up to 40.

CC will go away when the FC is no longer consuming any ammonia based organic compounds.

When the pool water is crystal clear, then do a OCLT with a CC reading at the morning test.
