My pool was finished in June 2020 and I have been using a maintenance company ever since. I just fired them for claiming to do work that they did not do so I’m on my own now. My salt level was low so I brought it up to 3200 ppm however the cell won’t turn on. The FC level is 1. From reading the posts it seems that cold water temperature, currently 47 degrees, is the reason. I also read that algae won’t grow at this temperature. Is that true? And, should I add LC? Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
Your SWCG is most likely off due to cold water temperature. Be sure to fill out your signature so we know what equipment you have so we can provide more definitive answers.
During the winter, maintain your FC based on the FC/CYA Levels for non-SWCG operation. As your SWCG is off, you follow the chart for regular pools.
How are you testing your pool water chemistry?
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

Welcome to TFP.

Correct. As Marty said SWG systems shutdown at some cold water temperature. WEth the Jandy Aquapure youc an force it to generate chlorine for 24 hours.

From Page 40 of the Installation Manual:

Below 51°F (11°C), chlorine production is not permitted; operating the chlorinator in cold water might result in over-chlorinated pool water. If more chlorine is needed, activating the “Boost” mode will override this cold water feature allowing chlorine production for 24 hours of operation.

Please create your signature with details of your pool and equipment so that we can give you more specific advice.

Chlorinate your pool using liquid chlorine during the colder months.

I also read that algae won’t grow at this temperature. Is that true? And, should I add LC? Thanks

Algae grows slower in cold water. But if you don't have the proper chlorine level to kill the algae when it gets in your water it will lay dormant and can bloom as soon as the water warms up.

You should add LC following the FC/CYA Levels for a non-SWG pool.

Thank you for the helpful comments. I’ve updated my signature. I’m going to run the quick boost and then test the water on Tuesday.

Generally, a Poolmaster test kit will not provide the data needed to properly manage your pool. I suspect you can test your TC to 5 ppm and thus the pH test is only good to 5 ppm TC. Also you do not have a CYA test and possibly a CH test.

I suggest you consider getting a proper test kit. See Test Kits Compared
