Hi All,

Newish to the world of in ground pools, this summer being our first summer with a pool.

Opening the pool was a learning experience to say the least. Lots of Google searches and many YouTube videos were watched.

For most of the summer I had a problem with low pressure and my pump basket not fully filling with water. It wasn't until about mid-August when the pressure pretty much dropped to zero that I decided things were really not right. Long story short the problem ended up being a partially clogged suction line that just needed to be blown out with compressed air. Since that day everything is running smoothly now.

Hi Roberge01. Welcome. Hey, how is the pool season up there? Do you have to heat your pool? What kind of swim season do you get?

Our pool season is rather short without a pool heater. I live in southern Ontario so the temperatures are a bit warmer then up north. This summer we didn't have a pool heater because it stopped working for the previous owners last summer. We wanted to do one summer without one to see how long we would get to use the pool.

We were swimming by the second weekend of June but the temperature was only 71 - 72F, a little chilly. After a couple weeks of good hot weather the temp went up to around 85 - 87F and the highest it reached was 89F, with no pool heater.

Now we are sitting back around 73F and it is mid-September, so about a 3 month season without heater. Next year we will have a heater to prolong the swimming season.

Thanks. I've been curious about swim seasons up north. What to tell my northern friend (Washington) regarding the ROI for a pool up that way. To be honest, down here in Central CA, I only got about 4 decent months this year (so far, anyway, and it's cooling off). But I wasn't willing to extend that by getting in 72° water! That might have given me a 6-month season. I use a solar heater, and that makes all of swim season more comfortable, but I don't know that it extends it all that much. I'm too cheap to pay for natural gas, and too lazy to use a pool cover, so I get what I get. I'll pass this along to my buddy.

I hope you stick around and learn about TFPC. It really is the easiest, best, most cost-effective way to care for a pool, and it's been working great for me since I started doing it.

I will definitely be sticking around as long as i have a pool. I have been poking around on this site lots this summer and just now decided to register. There is a lot of good info on here and everyone seems to be pretty helpful from what i have read. And I always like sharing the knowledge that I have because I know I can't be the only person having the problems I have.
