So I started with CYA around 200-220 (once I learned to test myself) pool looked and felt great but FC was climbing out of control and at one point I turned off my SWCG for 5 hot sunny days and it only dropped from 14 to 8 in that period.
Anyway after my 3rd drain (approx 500 gallons, 5,000 gallons and 1000 gallons) I think I finally have a manageable pool. Water is super clear especially when pool turns off and it's still it looks like the pool is empty. So I did a full set of tests (for salt I'm trusting my Hayward waiting on a new Taylor salt kit)
FC 5.5
TC 0.0
PH 7.6
TA 110
CH 350
CYA 90 (50% diluted 90-100 between the closer to 50 than 40 mark)
salt 3000
I'm hoping with a rainy summer ahead and SWCG the slightly above guidelines CYA will be ok as it has to come down over the summer. I'll try to keep the the FC at 6-7 until it does then 5-6 at 80 ...
It took a while to not trust my pool store guys, then actually trust my own testing, and finally drain a perfectly clear pool 3 times to get my CYA back to double digits, but I'm hoping I can start my TFP days now.
