New SWG pool owner, about to start SLAM

Added another gallon of liquid Chlorine targeting 16ppm FC, also pulled the wet sock (with undissolved CYA crystal) out of skimmer. Will put it back once SLAM is completed.
Good plan.
Need to buy more liquid chlorine tomorrow noon, then test CYA again to decide if FC needs to be further increased and maintained tomorrow afternoon. Will do OCLT tomorrow night, plan to do Saturday full day high FC level and OCLT, too.
We got you. You are on the right track. A SLAM is very doable at CYA of 50ppm.

Ended up not able to add chlorine during the day today.
Evening test result: FC 11.5-12, CYA 30-40, CC 0-0.5
Basically the 1 gallon chlorine I added last night was all lost during the day today.
According to SLAM process I should add more FC targeting to 16ppm, but I ended up deciding to bet on my luck due to the almost zero CC.
Will test FC again tomorrow morning, if loss is larger than 1ppm, I'll add chlorine and maintain 16ppm for entire day time. If OCLT loss is less than 1ppm, I'll probably call the SLAM completed.
Water looks crystal clean as attached.

Niiiiiice!
Proud Of You Yes GIF

6am test: FC 11.5-12, CC 0
I'd call the SLAM completed. Will add more CYA targeting 60-70ppm and invite kids back into the pool.
Attaching water status before and after SLAM. Overall expenses below in case others are interested:
  • TF100 test kit Salt: ~$100
  • PoolMath sub: $8 per year
  • 1 gallon Muriatic Acid (30%): about $10 in Ace Hardware
  • 5 lbs CYA: $30 Homedepot. Will need another bag for my target CYA
  • 1 gallon Liquid Chlorine (10%) box of 3: $20 Homedepot, bought another box but didn't use
It was daunting initially when water turned green day after day while I knew nothing about pool chemistry. However, TFP, TFtestkit and PoolMath have made the entire trouble shooting and treatment process easy to follow and result predictable, and now I know what I need to do if similar situation arises in future. @PoolStored at least for this I can declare I was #NotPoolStored.

Big thanks to you all, HermanTX, Texas Splash, PoolStored, and whomever have been reading this thread, you all are the best!
