New sand in filter

What should/should not do with old sand? Can I just spread it out in the yard, or will the chemicals hurt my grass? It's about 300# according to the manual. Might as well change the sand while I'm in there when I replace the suspected cracked laterals. Existing sand is nasty gray looking, even after deep cleaning last summer. It's about 6 years old.

That sand will do next to zero damage, use it on a nice flower bed.

Really no need to replace the sand even if it looks gray.

There isn't anything in the sand that will hurt your lawn.
