Hi everyone
just got a hayward aquarite installed, t-15.
added 240kg of salt to the pool, as that was less than specified on poolmath but exactly as specified on the bags and the swg manual. level is currently 3800...ok probably no big deal
(edit - poolmath shows the same thing, nvm)

my question is...at 50% pump flow, the swg reads no flow. here is the picture of the setup, and the flow switch just after the filter. surely 50% power is sufficient to generate the minimum 11gpm...are there any other possible issues? filter pressure is 5 and pump basket is clean...

thanks

d,

I too would assume that if you pump is running at 50% speed, then that should be plenty to close the flow switch and make the cell work.

I don't fully understand you pic, but as long as all the water coming from the pump is going through the flow switch and then cell, it should work.

You just can't have some of the water going to the cell and then some of the water going to something else, like a water feature or the like.

When was the last time you backwashed your filter??

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim,

thanks for your reply. I would say 1 or 2 weeks ago, and the pressure is only 5 psi.... i guess I could give it another rinse today and see...

in the picture, the water comes from the pump (off screen right) into the filter, and out into the flow sensor before entering the heater. thered 12 inches of pipe and no other water features...

any other thoughts? worth calling the installer back after?

d,

Just to make sure...

The flow switch should have little arrows on the top that you want to point in the direction of flow. You just don't tighten the switch down as tight as it will go. Please double check the arrows.

Thanks,

Jim R.

hi guys. update, I backwashed the filter for like 1:30 (of which 1 min is full speed prime) and it now generates at less than 45% flow. great success!

i am surprised because I thought the pressures on the filter being low suggested it was clean...

i see little bubbles coming from the return which concerned me until I remembered the cell produces gas lol

next, to figure out optimal parameters in terms of generating percentage and pump run time to reduce costs and ensure cell longevity (links or suggestions welcomed :) )

thanks all!

.at 50% pump flow, the swg reads no flow.

filter pressure is 5
5 psi is 11.6 feet of head and then you also have some head loss on the suction side.

What is the exact model number?

Is it wired for 115 volts or 230 volts?

Ok, the flow seems a little bit lower than it should be.

Maybe a suction issue or maybe a clogged impeller.

Hard to tell for sure.
James, could u please let me know what numbers you are seeing? what
should the flow be? (im assuming u mean rpm to generate the minimum 11gpm?)

thanks in advance, this is all so interesting to me

Assuming a 15 GPM flow required, the maximum head loss is 15 feet, which is about 6.5 psi, so that is about what you would expect if the pressure side is 5 psi and the suction is 1.5 psi or higher.

Most likely, it is working correctly.
