New pool owner here. I needed a new pump and the one I got has 2” union connections and I have 1 1/2” pool piping. I used a reducer to connect it all not thinking it would be a issue. I have quite a big air bubble in the pool pump basket. Could the step down be the issue?

The reducer isn't the issue. The installation of the reducer may be, but the reducer being there not so much. 
What all have you done to try and find the leak?
Did you change the size of the pump when you replaced it?
