Seems alot of folks are looking at (or needing) new pumps this time of year. So here I go

I am looking for a replacement for my Hayward 2HP Super Pump. I would like increased energy efficiency and since I don't have any special water features or need for automation, I figured I would look into a 2-speed pump. The Pentair Intelliflo 340044 2HP seems to fit the bill between efficiency (esp at low speed) and initial cost. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with this pump? And a stupid question - I assume that this pump is weather proof? Thanks!

I assume you mean the Superflo, not the Intelliflo.

As you state, you do not have any water features, I assume you do not have a suction side cleaner, and no heater. So I would say you could easily down size at least to the Superflo 1.5hp two speed. On low you should be able to meet your flow rate requirements for your IC40.

Let's see what some other forum members say ---

Ed,

With a SWCG, having a VS or 2-speed pump, running on low, is almost mandatory if you want to control your electrical costs..

I personally don't believe that you can go wrong by upgrading to the Pentair 2-speed pump that you have selected.

That pump is a waterproof as any other pool pump..

How do you plan to control the speed? A two speed timer, or are you just going to run it on low most of the time and then use a manual switch to change to high speed?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Look into the 342001 Pentair SuperFlo. This variable speed pump is close to the same price as the 2 speed and can be programmed for three run times and has many more speed options. More options are better.

I purchased the Pentair 340042 1HP two speed pump and it has worked flawlessly, this will be the 4th year in service.. I have it connected to a Circupool SJ45 and it works perfect on low and high.. I run low speed between 6 hours a day in the spring and fall and 10 hours a day in the summer...

That Triton TR-60 sand filter of yours might be a little to much for the 1HP though..

Thanks for the input. If I am not mistaken, the pump comes with a manual switch that has to be wired, but looks fairly simple to wire up. I'll just put on high speed when needed

Yes, I meant the Superflo. As you said I do not have a suction side cleaner (rather a pressure side cleaner with its' own separate (polaris) pump. The pump is highly rated overall, but I wanted real advice from the folks here. I was also wondering if a 1.5 hp would be enough to push thru the Triton 60 but it sounds like it can work. Thanks very much!
