New pump - Hayward 3/4 hp or 1 hp?

I'm redoing my pool plumbing, and I thought I would replace my pump while I'm at it. I currently have a 3/4 hp Sta-Rite pump that is at least 15 years old (all metal housing). It's still going strong, but I can't expect it to work forever.

I think the previous owner bought the pump and the Hayward EC65 DE filter together. They are attached with hose and clamps. The DE filter is designed for 54 gpm.

I'm looking at the Hayward Super Pumps, both 3/4 hp and 1 hp. I'm going back and forth trying to decide whether to stay with the 3/4 hp, or get the 1 hp. They both happen to be on sale today at Doheny's.

Any opinions?

3/4 vs 1 HP is not going to make any visible difference.

Consider getting a 2 speed or VS pump. It will save you in electrical costs depending how much you run the pump.
