First pool for us. Just a small 3.5m x 7.5m concrete inground. Trying to get all the pointers I can while under construction. The climate here is similar to central California . But it's never to early to start learning how best to take care of it.

They are just starting to bring the materials. Monday they will begin to prep the area
That is going to be quite a depth change for that small of a pool. I would think about having it all one depth. That will give you more usable pool.

So I did a conversion and that comes out to 5'10". With that depth you will have NO standing room inside the pool. It will be all swim or float. Hold a tape measure up to your wife and see where she would like the water to hit her if she were in the pool. Now there is nothing wrong with your proposed depth if that is what you want. I just want to help you think it all through.
Also make sure you are talking about WATER depth. Some people call a pool depth from the floor to under the coping without thinking about the fact the WATER depth only goes to the middle of skimmer opening.

I would do 1.3m or less across the whole pool. Any deeper makes the pool difficult to use.
The measurement they are using is the total depth, from bottom to top edge. 6-8 in to middle of skimmer intake
