San Antonio
Hello all, Just found this site, wish I found 3 years ago. My wife and I have decided to get an inground pool after deciding we are going to stay in our current house and not move. We currently have an above ground but now are ready to make the move. We live in San Antonio and plan on going with one of the better know builders here. Below are the details of the proposed plan. After reading a few post about other plans I already know I don't want the Ozone but not sure about the other stuff they are proposing. Current price is $95,600 and we are willing to spend a little more (but less would be better!) to get what we want and the right equipment that will last. To me getting the best mechanicals for a higher up front cost is worth it after reading TFP. Also, decking can be upgraded if in the long run it will be better Travertine tiles are something we are looking at.. We want something that will be viewed 15-20 yrs as timeless, if that is possible with a pool. Anyways, look forward to your comments and if I need to change the format to make it more readable let me know.

Hey Rick, welcome to TFP! Seems to be quite the build. You already know how we feel about ozone sales, so that's good. But also discuss the chlorination. The inline (tabs) will last you about 3 months before your CYA is too high, then you're back to adding liquid chlorine manually. Most builders in our area seem to frown against salt water generators falsely claiming salt is no good for the pool surround (flagstone, etc). We here at TFP don't agree with that, but they may twist your arm claiming warranty concerns, so be prepared to discuss that with them. Chlorine is chlorine (tabs, bags, liquid, salt), the big difference between them all is what side effects are you willing to live with. IMO, salt is the way to go for convenience followed by adding liquid each day. If you have any questions about this subject, let us know.

Hey Splash, sorry the late reply, busy week. I met with the PB and they said exactly what you said, they will not warranty the coping with a SWG. Also asked about switching the DE to a cartridge and said they don't do recommend that. Felt like I didn't have any choices in what I buy. I am waiting on a couple of other builders in SA before deciding.

I have a friend going through the same thing. You would think a builder would install what YOU want, but I guess in their minds they have to protect their interest, even if there is no real science behind it. For them salt = rust .... period. But don't try to tell them liquid chlorine add just as much sodium over time. :brickwall: You should be able to get any filter type you want though. Me personally, even with all the hype of additional micron filtering, DE not worth the effort, but some people stick by them. Keep us posted. Hopefully your other quotes will be a little more accommodating. Now let's see if we get more liquid sunshine today. :)

Hi Rick

who did you end up going with? Could you PM me any opinions you have on your builder. We are looking at building a new pool this fall
