New Pool - Plumbing Help

Hi -

We completed our pool build a little over a month ago. Our builder had a company come handle the start up and pool school. During pool school I asked the tech how I can turn the spillway on and off. He said, the way the pool is currently plumbed that's not an option, currently the system pulls water from the pool and spa every time the pump is on. He also said if it was an option he wouldn't recommend it since the spa water would sit all day without turning over. With my previous pool I was able to turn the spillway on/ off with the push of a button and loved it.

I'm trying to keep the PH in check, but with the bubblers and spillway currently on at all times the PH spikes quickly. I can manually turn the bubblers off if I want, and I've been able to turn the pump speed down low enough (1250 rpms) during the day to keep the spillway from flowing, but it still has a steady drip. I've also setup a schedule to run the spa twice per day for 2 hours in order to turn over the water.

Questions - Is there a way for me to turn the spillway on/ off? If so, how? Or should I leave it alone?

Pics below of my current setup.

Thx

Was your pool in POOL mode or SPA mode when you took those pics? We need to understand the way your valves are set in the pic.

You have four return pipes going into the ground. Are they labeled? Do you know what each pipe goes to?

I don't see any labels which I view as builder malpractice. But you posted small pics that cannot be zoomed in to get a good view of what you have.

Looking at the pool layout in your media it looks like you have 2 skimmers, main drain, suction side cleaner and a spillover spa. I assume you were on spa mode when the photos where taken which would make sense. You should be able to close the three way bottom left towards the check valve to turn off the spillway. You'll want to enable the spillway program in iaqualink which I think requires some dipswitch setup.

The valve circled in red is to control the bubblers in the tanning ledge.
Is the spa elevated? If so that would be the reason for the check valve. The right side is likely the bubbles, the left side the spa spillway and the upper right your standard returns.
Aim the circled three way "off" to the left to test.

Yes, spa is elevated. I'll give it a try tomorrow. If that's the case there is no way to activate the spillway from the aqualink, correct?

That is only if there is an actuator on the valve controlling the spillway, correct?

If you have a POOL/SPA system controlled by the Aqualink then you have the actuator on the return diverter.

  • In POOL mode - suction from POOL; return to POOL
  • In SPA mode - suction from SPA; return to SPA
  • In SPILLWAY mode - suction from POOL; return to SPA
It is all done with the same two diverter valves and actuators.
