We purchased a home that has a pool and the equipment isn't working. Specifically, the salt generator doesn't seem to be making chlorine. Previous homeowner said it worked fine last season but the panel is shorted our and either all the lights are on or none of them are. Front cover panel isn't even connected and they have been getting aftermarket salt cells from Amazon. It's a Haward Goldline but I don't know what model. I'm pretty sure that we need to replace the panel and cell and are considering buying a Circupool Edge or RJ Series... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, we had a pool guy come out and he told us that he hates salt systems and tried to encourage us to just convert back to non-salt chlorination or whatever. He also said that the way the salt cell is positioned is on the wrong side of the heater. He said that we should replumb so that the salt cell is after the heater and not before. Is that a thing or no? IMG_7744.JPGIMG_7746.JPG

Bobbi,

The people that "hate" salt system just do not have a clue how they work..

In my opinion, saltwater pools are the only kind of pools to have.

I need to see a picture of our whole equipment pad..

The cell should be after the water flows through the heater.

We have a lot of member here that have CircuPool cells, and they have very few reported failures.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Circupool makes great products and has good customer service. The RJ series are robust units. I like the RJ because the output is in 5% increments, the edge is 12.5% increments. 5% increments mean less fiddling increments up and down with changing FC demand. Both products work just fine.

Thank you so much! I just uploaded a couple more photos. Hopefully those are helpful.

Bobbi,

It appears to me that you cell is installed correctly after the heater..

I assume you do not have a spa.. Is that correct??

Thanks,

Jim R.
That's right. No spa. Thanks for verifying that. I think we're done with that pool company. Not sure why he was telling us that. Ordering a new Circupool RJ-30. Hopefully by the end of the week we will be in good shape. Thank you so much for your help!

bobbi,

Your new cell needs to be at least 2 x the volume of our pool.. Bigger is always better.. In your case, you have a single speed pump and will only want to run it for the shortest amount of time possible.. So a bigger cell will make more chlorine in a shorter amount of time.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks guys! I ordered the RJ-30 with the promo. I think that'll be plenty. My pool is a little smaller than I thought. According to the previous owner it's 13500 gal. Does that sound sufficient?

Assuming that you get full output on the RJ30, and 13500 is accurate, 8 hours of pump run time will add 4.4ppm of FC. The RJ-45 would need 6 hours of runtime for the same output.

The tradeoff is $$ upfront difference in the cell cost vs. the cost to run your pump 2 more hours a day.
