Hello everyone, I'm new to pool maintenance. I have been testing my water Chemistry well. Question I have though is where does my backwash hose hook up to? I've included some pics of my system. Does it hook up to the open black pipe right in front coming straight up? I was going to have a company come out and give me some info but for 150.00 an hour that sounds ridiculous.

Your waste should leave the filter and go straight down out of that slide/plunger valve. Can't really see it well in your pics though from the angles you posted.

I looks as though you have nothing connected to the very bottom of your slide valve. That's where the waste should go when you switch to backwash. Here's an example. Go to 9:45 in this video.
